Louise Pennington Numicon expert

Louise Pennington

Ensuring that language is purposefully intertwined with our teaching approach strengthens the learning process.

Louise is the Professional Development leader for Mathematics and Numicon at Oxford University Press.

She started her career as a teacher, became a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Co-coordinator and Local Authority (LA) lead maths and specialist teacher; later leading the Local Authority Special Needs Teaching team supporting teachers, parents, children and young people.

She has worked for a national not-for-profit organisation that transforms the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people and delivered the National Award for SENCOs as an associate Tutor for Manchester Metropolitan University.

Recently accepted as a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, Louise has been working as an independent consultant in the field of SEND and maths difficulties and was a lead Numicon consultant and author – she co-authored the Numicon Breaking Barriers publication and the Numicon Pupil Books, also contributing activities to the MyMaths online teaching and homework website. Louise has also had a number of articles focusing on primary mathematics published.

Louise passionately believes that every learner can reach their potential through innovative and engaging teaching which utilises multi-sensory techniques and approaches.
