Lorraine Heinrichs
Lorraine Heinrichs has taught Mathematics for 30 years. She taught MYP, DP Mathematics and Theory of Knowledge from 1999 to 2017 at Bonn International School in Germany. From 2002 until the summer of 2017, she also held the position of DP coordinator.
Originally from Malta, Lorraine earned a degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Malta followed by a Post Graduate certificate in education. Lorraine taught for a number of years in Malta before she embarked on a new adventure joining her husband on his postings. Between 1990 and 1996, Lorraine returned to Malta and went back to teaching Mathematics and Physics.
Lorraines attributes her curiosity and love for Mathematics to her late father, who always answered her questions and took the time to give her challenging puzzles and problems when she was still very young. He brought Mathematics to life the way teachers at school never did. In her classroom she tries to instil curiosity and love for the subject in the same way her father did.
In 2002 she was trained as a workshop leader for MYP and she contributed towards the teacher support material for Extended Mathematics. Shortly afterwards, she started the role of examiner and moderator for DP Mathematics HL and promptly became a Team Leader for Internal Assessment. Lorraine decided to stop facilitating workshops in MYP Mathematics as she was too involved with the Diploma Programme and she knew that she would be spreading herself too thin. At the time she was also busy facilitating DP workshops and writing tasks for Mathematics HL portfolios.
Today, when Lorraine is not busy marking and moderating for the IB, she finds herself facilitating online and face-to-face workshops. Lorraine is an author for the OUP course companion and options books written for the outgoing curriculum. She is also an author and consultant for OUP’s forthcoming Mathematics books.
