Natasha Awada
Natasha Awada hails from the picturesque little village of ElKhiam in the south of Lebanon, where she was blessed to have a father who fostered her desire to know and to understand. This curiosity led to a long-term relationship with Mathematics, as she developed a deep appreciation and understanding of its beauty and order. Her father’s support and encouragement led to her pursuing further studies in Mathematics, so that she now proudly holds a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics as well as a Master’s Degree in Education from Sunderland University.
Natasha’s belief is that every child has the right to understand and experience the beauty of the subject, which will only be achieved through good pedagogy. She argues that teaching mathematics through a concept-based curriculum not only develops students’ critical thinking, but also empowers them to better understand and interpret the world around them.
This belief has led to her becoming the DP Coordinator and Math Department Leader at Jeddah Knowledge International School, KSA. She has been leading the Mathematics Department (DP & American Diploma) since 2010, and has taught the following curricula for more than 15 years: MYP Math, DP Math (Higher Level), DP Math (Standard Level) and the IGCSE curriculum. To further enhance her pedagogical skills, Natasha has also become expert in a range of mathematics software such as Autograph, Geogebra, Desmos and Graphic Display Calculators.
As a qualified International Baccalaureate Workshop leader, Natasha has delivered numerous workshops in the Europe and Middle East region. As an IB Math DP examiner and workshop developer, she was also member of the Math Curriculum Committee of the International Baccalaureate from 2014-2018. In addition to her experience in the teaching of Mathematics, Natasha has participated in a number of school accreditation processes and visits, including CIS and NEASC, and is currently an IB School Team Visitor.
Today, Natasha is the co-author IB Mathematics Analysis and Approaches: Standard Level, which is published by Oxford University Press.
