Roger Norris
After completing his BSc degree, Roger gained his PhD in Plant Chemistry at University College, London. Following this, he undertook research in various institutions. During this time he became increasingly interested in secondary education, took a diploma in Science education and taught for 25 years mostly as Head of Department. Early in his teaching career he became involved in syllabus development and became a Principal Examiner for OCR and then Cambridge International Examinations.
Roger was then a freelance science education consultant and author of several books on Chemistry, including Cambridge IGCSE & O Level Essential Chemistry. He acted as a Principal Examiner and delivered professional development courses to teachers in many different countries. His educational interests continued to focus on developing aspects of assessment and encouraging the spirit of scientific enquiry. He was always interested in an approach to learning through doing experiments and developing questions which help lead students to ‘self-discovery’ of ideas and an enthusiasm for science.
