Stephen Pople : Secondary: Oxford University Press

Stephen was born and brought up in Bristol, UK. After gaining a physics degree at Oxford, he returned to his home city for teacher training and his first job, in a grammar school, where he was appointed Head of Physics. Wishing to widen his experience, he later took up a similar post in a large comprehensive school, where he also worked as Examinations Officer. At this stage, he started writing for Oxford University Press, and has now done so for over 30 years. His titles include Science to GCSE, Co-ordinated Science Physics, and, most recently, Cambridge IGCSE & O Level Complete Physics.

Eventually, with the demands of book writing increasing, Stephen had to swap life in the classroom for that of a professional author. However, he has kept in close touch with the world of education, serving for a period as a deputy editor of Physics Education, a journal of the Institute of Physics, and also acting as science consultant for the Oxford Children’s Encyclopedia and related reference works. In 1996, he was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Physics.

Stephen’s books have been used around the world, with translations into Russian, Chinese, Greek, Icelandic, and Serbian-Croat amongst others. Using a carefully integrated blend of illustrations, text, and questions, they have been tailored to support examination success, but also to show how much physics underpins our technologies, our engineering, and our understanding of the Universe.
